A recent study published in Cardiovascular Diabetology – Endocrinology Reports highlighted the factors related to prediabetic reversion in patients with cardiovascular risk.
The study aimed to determine the various factors that promote prediabetic reversion.

Patients diagnosed with prediabetes were selected, and a longitudinal, descriptive study with retrospective collection of information in quarterly follow-ups was conducted by the cardiovascular risk program of a III-level institution between 2019 and 2023. To determine the correlation between reversion to normoglycemia and associated factors, univariate and bivariate analysis was done.
It was found that doing physical activity of more than 150 minutes per week increases the chances (4.15 times) of reversing prediabetes. While HbA1c of more than 6.9 to 86% and BMI of more than 25 to 75% decrease the chances of reversal.

Key highlights

•    Physical activity exceeding 150 minutes per week increased the likelihood of reverting to normoglycemia by over fourfold (OR = 4.15).
•    Higher HbA1c levels (>6.9%) were associated with an 86% reduction in chances of prediabetes reversal.
•    Elevated BMI (>25) also significantly decreased the probability of returning to normal glucose levels (by 75%).
