A recent study published in Midwifery highlighted the role of antenatal care in managing gestational diabetes mellitus in the Cyprus population. Gestational diabetes mellitus in pregnancy leads to high-risk complications in both maternal and foetal health.
The study aimed to determine the experience and perception of women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus.
A total of 10 women with diabetes mellitus and a gestational age of more than 30 weeks were included in the study. Researchers conducted a qualitative descriptive study in Cyprus in 2020. Using a Facebook group page, data were collected and analyzed through semi-structured interviews, which were then analyzed using thematic analysis.
Experiences and perceptions were categorized into four themes, i.e., blood glucose management, suggestions for respectful care, emotions triggered by a gestational diabetes mellitus diagnosis, and family-related factors.
